BUILDING COMMUNITY
Over spring break, kids were asked to complete a Student Profile about themselves. It was a simple template, where they could tell the group about their strengths and interests, as well as what does and does not work for them when trying to learn and play. Kids could choose from a variety of ways to share with the group.
On Wednesday morning, the first students began presenting. There were slide shows, brochures, hand made posters, digital posters and each student had something unique to reveal about themselves. Some decorated their posters with stickers, others offered their own drawings, while others opted for a more stream-lined look. It was fun to see different personalities come out in the design of their Student Profiles, as well as their presentation styles.
My favorite part had to be the vision statements. Whether they were written with help from family or independently, those statements offered extra insight. For some, it was the chance to tell us about what they want to be when they grow up. (I always find these answers fascinating.) But just as enchanting were the vision statements simply about their hopes and dreams for the near and distant future.
More presentations next week - deeper connections to make, building that community we set off to create, one kid and family at a time.
